What won the race: Winning a spirited battle over Chad Thrash and Brian Rickman amid lapped traffic, polesitter Logan Margin of West Plains, Mo., stormed to the $8,000 Comp Cams Series Dirt Series victory in Saturday’s Gumbo Nationals finale at Greenville Speedway. He finished 1.213 seconds ahead of fourth-starting Rickman to record his eighth career tour triumph.
Quotable: "I knew they were all over me," Martin said. "I mean, I gave that one way last night. It had it locked up and sealed and I let them lapped cars get in my head. I threw it away because I wasn't going to let that happen tonight."
Key notes: Martin, who entered the weekend trailing B.J. Robinson by 45 points, swept the program to defend his 2020 points title. … Robinson's sixth-place finish relegated him to second, five points behind Martin. … Third-starting Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., retired with five laps remaining after threatening Martin in the later stages of the 50-lapper. … The Comp Cams Series wrapped up the 2021 campaign on Saturday at Greenville with the second night of the 15th annual Gumbo Nationals. … Clay Fisher of DeWitt, Ark., won Friday’s weekend opener, which was a continuation of an Oct. 2 rainout.
On the move: Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., started 17th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Martin’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Adams Construction, Midwest Sheet Metal, Steed Bros., Bill Frye Motorsports, Integra Shocks, Reliable Chevrolet and PPG Paints.
