What won the race: Taking the lead on lap 24, Nick Anvelink of Bonduel, Wis., paced the final seven circuits Saturday at Wilmot Raceway, winning the fifth annual Wildman Watson Classic and collecting $1,250. Anvelink's victory is his fourth of the year with the Wabam Dirt Kings Tour and the 22nd of his career, extending his lead on the tour's all-time victories list.
Key notes: Brad Mueller of Random Lake, Wis., moved into the runner-up position on a lap-28 restart and finished 1.435 seconds back. ... Ron Berna of Shawano, Wis., advanced five positions and finished third. ... After winning Friday's $3,000 weekend opener at Sycamore Speedway in Maple Park, Ill., Troy Springborn of Shawano, Wis., gained 10 positions and finished fourth. ... Joel Bennett led the first three laps before fading to finish 11th. ... Winner of the last two Dirt Kings Tour stops at Wilmot, Taylor Scheffler of Waukesha, Wis., led laps 4-23, before retiring on lap 26 and finishing 17th. ... Justin Ritchie was running second to Scheffler when he was involved in that same lap-26 incident, finishing 16th. ... Saturday's feature, a race that honors Jim “Wildman” Watson, a veteran late model racer from Greenfield, Wis., who passed away from a heart attack in 2017 at the age of 55, was slowed by four cautions and lasted 28 minutes, with 15 competitors completing all 30 laps.
