Ricky Weiss in victory lane after his $5,000 Bristol victory.
What won the race: Ricky Weiss of Headingley, Manitoba, led all 30 laps from the pole at Bristol Motor Speedway, winning Saturday's $5,000 American Crate All-Star Series presented by PPM portion of the Bristol Dirt Showcase. Weiss earned his second career victory at Bristol after topping a $25,000 World of Outlaws feature there last year.
Quotable: “Since they’ve been putting dirt down on Bristol the past few years we have speed every time we come here," Weiss said. "Track position is key at this place, and we put ourselves in position to be successful every time we hit the track with fast time and a dash win to earn the pole. From there we set sail and got the job done.”
Key notes: Seventh-starting Dillon Brown of Gaffney, S.C., moved into the runner-up position on lap 24 and finished 1.922 seconds back. ... Ninth-starting Benji Hicks completed the podium in third. ... Jacob Brown advanced eight positions and finished fifth. ... Justin Hudspeth gained four spots and placed seventh. ... Trey Bayne ran as high as second before dropping out on lap nine, finishing 23rd. ... The season-opening American Crate All-Star Series feature was slowed by four cautions and lasted 44 minutes, with 10 drivers completing all 30 laps.
On the move: Garret Paugh of Elkins, W.Va., started 19th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Weiss drives a Sniper Chassis powered by an Eagle Racing Engine and sponsored by G-Style Transport, Turk Enterprises, Collins Brothers Towing, Derrick’s Sandblasting, Drydene Performance Products, Keewatin Truck Service, Borderland Hay & Straw, Wiesner Trucking, VP Racing Fuels, DirtCarLift.com, Total Works Truck & Equipment, Straight Ahead Ventures, Inc., Penske Racing Shocks and RDW Recycling.
