Cory Hedgecock rolled to the $10,000 victory Saturday at Talladega Short Track.
What won the race: For the second straight night, Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led the entire distance from the pole and topped the Crate Racin' USA field, this time winning Saturday's $10,000 Golden Hornet 50 at Talladega Short Track. Hedgecock, a two-time series champion, notched his 10th overall victory of the season and the 17th of his career with CRUSA.
Key notes: Hedgecock collected upwards of $15,000 across both wins this weekend. ... Third-starting Parker Martin moved into the runner-up position on a lap-18 restart and trailed the rest of the way, finishing a distant 6.566 seconds back. ... Trynt Lloyd challenged Hedgecock in the early laps before fading to finish third. ... Ryan King and Jake Knowles each advanced one position, finishing fourth and sixth. ... Blake Craft gained five spots and finished seventh. ... Current series points leader Mark Whitener was involved in the race's final caution on lap 17 when T.J. Brittain abruptly slowed in front of him and Richie Stephens had nowhere to go, piling into the back of Whitener; Stephens was unable to continue, while Brittain recovered to finish 11th and Whitener in 15th. ... The last two series champions, Jason Welshan (2022 champion) retired on lap 17 and Jimmy Thomas (2021) pulled off on lap five. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by two cautions and lasted 22 minutes, with 11 drivers completing all 50 laps.
