Jake Redetzke won a career-high $11,000 at Cedar Lake.
What won the race: Sixth-starting Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., used an inside move entering turn one to take the lead on lap 25 and never looked back, cruising to win Saturday's $11,000 24th annual Masters finale at Cedar Lake Speedway. The victory is Redetzke's second of the weekend after topping Thursday's $3,000 opener and his 16th career triumph at Cedar Lake.
Quotable: “The biggest thing was getting a good restart,” Redetzke said. “I gambled with a 40 (Hoosier tire), I’ve never had one before and I was scared in the beginning because I couldn’t get going. Finally when we got some laps in, I could start rolling that middle, like we’re gonna be alright. Yeah I saw, that was unfortunate for (Lance) Hofer, I mean that was going to be a really good run for him, but yeah he just kinda got in the wall there and then yeah, I just kinda snuck by (Jordan) Yaggy there and then I was running scared.”
Key notes: After winning two prelims in 2021, Redetzke earned his fourth career Masters weekend victory and his first in the event's finale. ... Second-starting Lance Hofer, a Late Model rookie, led the opening 24 laps before hitting the turn four wall and coasting to the pits. ... Third-starting Jordan Yaggy was poised to become the race leader after Hofer's mishap, but Redetzke took command and set sail; Yaggy closed Redetzke's advantage in the closing laps, finishing 0.726 of a second back. ... Friday's $5,000 second round winner, Nick Anvelink advanced five positions and finished third. ... Darrell Nelson and Cole Searing each gained 10 spots, finishing sixth and eighth. ... After starting last at his home track, Pat Doar moved forward 17 positions and finished seventh. ... A.J. Diemel ran as high as as third before a flat right rear tire ended his race on lap 44. ... Polesitter Dave Flynn failed to lead a lap and retired on lap 16 after hitting the wall, an incident very similar to Hofer's. ... Driving the MB Customs house car owned by recently-retired Jimmy Mars, Dustin Sorensen pulled off on lap 10 after two separate incidents and finished 23rd; Sorensen rebounded to win Saturday's $11,000 Masters finale in USMTS modified competition. ... Saturday's 24th annual Masters feature was slowed by five cautions and lasted 25 minutes, with 11 competitors completing all 50 laps.
On the move: Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., started 24th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Redetzke’s MB Customs Race Car carries sponsorship from Champ Pans Racing Products, J&D Manufacturing, Stainer Logging, Dynamic Fabrication & Finishing and CMD Shocks.
