What won the race: Regaining the lead from Dustin Sorensen with a turn-one slide job, Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., led the final 18 laps Monday at Ogilvie Raceway to capture the $2,000 XR Northern Storm miniseries opener. The polesitter led twice for 20 laps to earn his 40th career Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series victory, further extending his all-time lead.
Quotable: “Oh it feels great, everybody knows I got some lucky streak going here at Ogilvie,” Doar said. “The track (suits me) for some reason, I don’t know, I may go run 15th tomorrow (at Hibbing) ya know, who knows, but this Ogilvie just fits my car setup and the way I like to drive.”
Key notes: Marking the 303rd triumph of his career, Monday's win is Doar's seventh of the season and his fourth with the WISSOTA Challenge Series, further extending his points lead. ... Third-starting Travis Budisalovich made a bold middle of three-wide move to take the runner-up spot on lap 31, finishing 0.670 of a second back. ... Fourth-starting Dave Mass ran as high as second before settling in the third spot. ... Driving the Jimmy Mars-owned MB Customs house car, Dustin Sorensen led laps 3-22 before giving way to Doar and fading to finish fourth. ... Jake Redeztke advanced two positions and finished fifth. ... Slowed by only a single caution for debris on lap 20, Monday's 16-minute feature saw 16 drivers complete 40 laps with 20 running at the finish. ... WISSOTA Challenge Series competitors return to Ogilvie on Aug. 26 for another $2,000-to-win event.
On the move: Josh Zimpel of Braham, Minn., started 11th and finished eighth.
