Justin Kay en route to fast-time honors at Marshalltown.
What won the race: Keeping Charlie McKenna at bay as he navigated through lapped traffic, fourth-starting Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, stormed to the $4,644 Hoker Trucking Series in Friday’s Dale DeFrance Memorial at Marshalltown Speedway. Key led every lap and finished 3.952 seconds ahead of McKenna with 15th-starting Jason Rauen finishing third.
Quotable: “This thing was good right from the drop of the green. We were quite a bit too tight, but it just gained some traction in the straightaway. Just gas it up and it would go," Justin Kay said. "The track was different from the last time we were here. These tires have been throwing us for a loop, but I think we’re finally getting them down. I think everything’s finally coming together."
Key notes: Kay recorded his ninth Hoker Trucking Series victory of his career and 12th overall win of the season. ... Bill Leighton of La Vista, Neb., surrendered third after slowing on lap 42 with a flat tire. ... Sixth-starting Andrew Kosiski of Omaha, Neb., retired after spinning to draw the first caution of the race on lap eight. ... After damaging a powerplant in his regular No. 76 last weekend, Jason Hahne of Webster City, Iowa, fielded Rusty Patterson's No. 5 (the Rocket is the car Hahne drove last season). He finished 13th. ... The Hoker Trucking Series doubleheader weekend wraps up on Saturday at Kossuth County Speedway with the Malvern Bank Series for the Hovings & Harken Memorial.
On the move: Jason Rauen of Farley, Iowa, started 15th and finished third.
