Christian Hanger celebrates at North Alabama Speedway.
What won the race: Pole-starting Christian Hanger of Winchester, Tenn., led all but one lap to win Friday's $5,000 Road to 'Dega 40 in dominating fashion, topping the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series inaugural visit to North Alabama Speedway. Hanger captured his first career Iron-Man Series victory and his third overall win of the season.
Quotable: “I don’t really know why we don’t give a move-over flag down here, but I guess it is what it is,” Hanger said. “We had a really good car, I’m happy with it and we gonna keep digging. That was a hard-fought race and I appreciate Oakley (Johns) and Josh (Putnam) racing me clean. Oakley showed me (his) nose there and I think I was being real conservative, I said ‘I’m a gonna get on outta here’.”
Key notes: Hanger's previous wins this year came in Topless Outlaws Series action at Duck River Raceway Park and in the Ice Breaker for Limited Late Models at Tennessee National Raceway. … Eighth-starting Josh Putnam moved into the runner-up position on lap 37 and finished a distant 4.511 seconds back. ... Oakley Johns pressured Hanger early and used an outside move to lead lap 15 while Hanger was stuck in lapped traffic, before settling for third. ... Josh Henry ran as high as second in the early laps before fading to finish fourth. ... Billy Moyer and Brian Rickman each advanced five positions, finishing seventh and ninth. ... Rick Rickman spun on the initial start to draw the race's only caution; Rickman completed 16 laps before pulling off. ... Friday's 40-lap feature lasted 14 minutes with eight drivers completing the distance and 15 running at the finish. ... Jadon Frame was slated to start sixth but tagged the field after damaging his car and resorting to racing Joe Denby's.
On the move: Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn., started 17th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Hanger’s Longhorn Chassis by Wells is powered by a Pro Power Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Hanger’s Farms, Hanger’s Hardwood, Mickey Stephens Septic Services, Dobson Skid-Steer Services, Ballard’s Excavation, Greg Guinn’s Brickworks, Scotty’s Muffler and Brake, SFP Performance Systems, Hill Racing and Alexander Produce.
