Joseph Joiner heads for a $5,000 victory at his hometown track.
What won the race: Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., led all 40 laps from the pole and won Saturday's Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series season finale in dominating fashion, collecting $5,000 at Southern Raceway. Joiner captured his second Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory of the season — his second at Southern after topping March's $10,000 Bash at the Beach — and the eighth of his career.
Quotable: “Man it feels really good, we started our 2023 season here pretty strong, some Crate races and with you guys here in March,” Joiner said. “Was on the road quite a bit, burned up the road there all over, ran good, but to come back here and get a win to wrap it all up over here is really nice, right here at the house. You really can’t beat it, ya know the whole family is here; happy to have my babies here in victory lane and my wife.”
Key notes: After winning Friday's $3,000 opener, Dalton Cook regained the runner-up spot on a lap-24 restart and finished 1.447 seconds back. ... The race's sixth stoppage was a seven-minute red flag on lap-24 restart attempt when Brenden Smith and Bo Slay made contact and spun while batting for third, collecting Jesse Enterkin and Kendall Franklin; Smith continued and finished eighth while Slay, Enterkin and Franklin called it a night. ... Fifth-starting Caleb Gay moved into third on the lap-25 restart and completed the podium, clinching the 2023 series title. ... Colton Leyendecker followed Gay into fourth and finished there for the second consecutive night. ... Cruz Skinner moved into fifth on the lap-31 restart and completed the top-five finishers. ... J.R. Moseley improved two positions and finished sixth. ... Mark Dodson has his own trouble on a lap-24 restart attempt when he spun from 17th to draw the race's fifth yellow. ... Monte Skinner slowed from 13th on lap 23 and pulled off. ... Mark Clifton's solo-spin on lap six brought out the second caution. ... Saturday's main event was slowed by seven incidents and lasted 45 minutes, with eight drivers completing the distance and 11 running at the finish.
On the move: Cruz Skinner of Oxford, Ala., started 11th and finished fifth.
