Colton Flinner points heavenward after his Port Royal victory.
What won the race: Picking up his first victory since losing his father last year, Colton Flinner of Allison Park, Pa., charged from his ninth starting position to overtake race-long leader Trever Feathers in the final corner to pick up a $5,000 victory in the Spring Championship at Port Royal. Flinner, who started ninth and fell back to 11th before he began gradually making progress toward the front, crossed the checkers 0.104 of a second ahead of Feathers.
Quotable: "This means the world to me. I wish my dad was here, I miss him like crazy," Flinner said. "I doubt myself this whole year that I would be able to do this without him. My dad's my best friend and doing this without him is incredibly hard."
Key notes: Flinner managed to rally despite losing power steering in his car. ...
The fourth-starting Feathers, of Winchester, Va., made a bold first-lap move to charge from his fourth starting position into the lead by the time the field reached turn three. He led all the way until Flinner passed him on the last lap. ... Third-finishing Dylan Yoder improved three positions. ... Polesitter Gary Stuhler ended up 15th. ... Bryan Bernheisel started outside the front row but was an early retiree. ... Ryan Zook won the Limited Late Model feature, his second straight and third overall in the past two weeks.
On the move: Coleby Frye of Dover, Pa., started 22nd and finished fourth.
