What won the race: Sixth-starting Dustin Strand of Grand Forks N.D., overtook race-long leader Shane Edginton with five laps remaining for a $2,200 Northern LateModel Racing Association victory Thursday at Victory Lane Speedway. Strand crossed the finish line 2.221 seconds ahead of Edginton, who led the opening 20 laps from the outside front row.
Quotable: "I knew this track was really abrasive on tires, so the first 10, 15 laps, I was kinda biding my time," Strand said. "That yellow with 10 (laps) to go kinda helped me, I knew it was time to light the fire."
Key notes: Strand notched his series-leading fourth NLRA victory of the season and 33rd of his career. ... It was his second straight tour triumph north of the border after earning $1,200 there in 2018, when the facility was known as Red River Co-op Speedway. ... Pole-starting Cole Schill finished third. ... Eighth-starting Brody Troftgruben placed fourth. ... The 25-lap feature lasted 18 minutes after being slowed by two cautions, the final coming on a lap-16 restart for a multicar incident that eliminated Jason Strand and involved several others.
On the move: Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, Minn., started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Strand’s SRT Millenium Chassis is powered by a Strudy Racing Engine and sponsored by Walhalla Building Center, Q&Z Plumbing & Heating, Keewatin Truck Service, Freije Farms, Bemidji Welder’s Supply, Double Deuce Bar & Grill, Shocker Hitch Air Ride, Highside Truck Accessories & Sales, Generations Salon & Spa, Carr’s Grain Service, Naastad Acres, Jason Strand Farms, Flagstaff Nissan Subaru and The Bun Lounge.
