What won the race: Leading all but the first lap, pole-starting Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., claimed Friday’s Harold Hardgrove Memorial opener at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Jameson, overcoming right-rear quarter panel damage, powered ahead of Josh Rice on the second lap and drove away with the $5,000 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory.
Quotable: "I'm glad we was able to get her in victory lane. I gave the boys a lot of work to do for tomorrow," Jameson said, noting the damage to his car, then adding the victory is a confidence-builder for Saturday's richer purse. "Anytime you win, it's an upper for the whole team."
Key notes: The triumph was Jameson’s first with the second-year tour. … Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., finished second after charging ahead of Jameson on the opening circuit. … Series points leader Brandon Overton rebounded to finish 12th after pitting on laps 16 and 18. … Reigning series champ Josh Putnam retired on lap 19 while running ninth. … Ashton Winger and Tanner English pitted during a lap-seven caution after a slowing Michael Chilton brought out the first yellow. … Chilton's team announced engine problems will sideline the team at least temporarily. ... The two-day event honors Harold Hardgrove, a former Kentucky racer and former Lake Cumberland Speedway promoter. Not only reinstating the Lake Cumberland Classic in 1998, Hardgrove introduced the first $10,000-to-win event there in 2002. Hardgove’s son, Brandon, currently owns and operates Lake Cumberland Speedway, holding the event annually in memory of his father; Harold died Aug. 28, 2009, at the age of 54. ... It concludes with Saturday's $15,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., started 16th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Jameson's Rattliff Racing Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Grant Lee Farms, MGL Auto Sales, JRR Trucking, Keltner Contracting and Auto Outlet.
