What won the race: Storming ahead of early pacesetter Jason Hahne on lap 18, 15th-starting Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, led the remainder of Saturday’s 35-lap Bill Rice Memorial at Hamilton County Speedway. Simpson sped across the line 3.391 seconds ahead of sixth-starting Jake Neal to grab the $4,000 payday, securing his second Malvern Bank East Series victory of the season.
Key notes: Simpson's co-sanctioned victory boosts him to five career wins on both the Malvern East and West tours. ... Neal, of Omaha, Neb., grabbed second from Jason Hahne on lap 25 and trailed Simpson the final 10 circuits. Hahne led the opening 17 laps from the pole before eventually fading to third at his home track. ... Dylan Thornton, a two-time winner on the East Series this season, gained eight spots and placed sixth. … Charlie McKenna ran as high as second before pulling off on lap 17; he was the race's only retiree. ... The main event lasted 24 minutes, with 18 starters completing the distance. ... The Malvern Bank-sponsored sister tours complete a weekend doubleheader with Sunday's $3,000-to-win stop at Mason City (Iowa) Motor Speedway.
