What won the race: Skip Arp of Georgetown, Tenn., fired off from the outside front-row and repelled a late-race challenge from Joey Coulter to earn a $12,000 flag-to-flag victory in Friday's Asphalt Assault 50 at Anderson Motor Speedway. Arp beat Coulter to the checkers by 0.489 of a second for his 10th career Coltman Farms Southern All Star Series victory, although DirtonDirt.com omits asphalt results within historical records.

Plus I got out front of ‘em, I tell ya you gotta get out front, you know I’ve heard that a lot on these asphalt tracks. Kirkpatrick successfully repelled race-long challenges from Chase Oliver, with Oliver settling for fourth. ... Eighth-starting Doug Stevens finished sixth, the final driver to complete 50 laps. … The race lasted 16 minutes, with seven starters running at the finish. ... It was the tour’s first pavement race since a non-points event at Birmingham International Raceway on June 24, 2001, a race won by three-time series champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn. … The Anderson facility operated as a dirt oval from 1963-86 and hosted three Southern All Star events in 1985 and '86 won by Billy Clanton, Mike Head and Buck Simmons, before getting paved in 1987. Scott Childress, the former owner and promoter of nearby Cherokee Speedway, purchased the 3/8-mile oval earlier this year.
