Hudson O'Neal takes the checkers for a $20,000 payday at Brownstown.
What won the race: Pole-starting Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., regained control with an outside move out of turn four on lap 20 and led the rest of Wednesday's 50-lap Castrol FloRacing Night in America at Brownstown Speedway. O'Neal led twice for 32 laps (1, 20-50) to capture the $20,000 prize, his first series win of the seasona and fifth of this career.
Quotable: “For me, there’s nothing like Brownstown Speedway, anytime that I can come here and be in any type of race car is just so special,” O’Neal said. “It just took until lapped traffic (to get the lead back). It looked like he got a little loose in lapped traffic and I started kinda working and maneuver my line a little bit to find where I was gonna be a little bit better to get back by him.”
Key notes: Fourth-starting Jonathan Davenport powered around the outside of O'Neal to lead laps 2-19 before fading to eighth. ... Second-starting Tanner English grabbed the runner-up spot on a lap-33 restart and trailed O'Neal the rest of the way, finishing 1.949 seconds back. ... Tim McCreadie surged to take third on lap 41 and completed the podium. ... Ross Robinson was running 10th on lap 33 before charging to take fifth from Davenport on lap 43. ... Carson Ferguson overcame a lap-38 pit stop to finish ninth. ... Brenden Smith started 24th and finished 11th. ... The race was slowed by four cautions, the final on lap 39 when Jason Jameson hopped the turn-one cushion while battling for 10th and slowed down the backstretch. He did not continue. ... Jason Feger slowed from ninth with a flat right-rear to cause the third stoppage on lap 38. He rebounded to 12th after changing the tire. ... Ricky Thornton Jr. and Devin Moran tangled to trigger the second yellow flag on lap 33 while battling for fifth. Thornton slid up the track out of turn two just as Moran powered around him on the outside, with Moran's left-front hitting Thornton's right-rear and sending him spinning. Thornton showed his displeasure with Moran under the caution. ... Moran continued and finished fourth, while Thornton stormed back to ninth by lap 37 before calling it a night after leaving the racing surface the following lap. ... Shelby Miles slowed from 14th on lap four for the opening slowdown. ... The main event lasted 28 minutes, with 13 starters completing 50 laps. ... Hall of Famer Don O'Neal, the winner's father, failed to qualify for the feature after attempting his first start since Sept. 25, 2020, a Jackson 100 prelim at Brownstown. O'Neal was piloting a MasterSbilt house car owned by the McCarter brothers. ... Wednesday's action unofficially kicked off Brownstown's Jackson 100 week, as Lucas Oil Series competitors will take to the high-banked quarter-mile on Friday before contesting Saturday's 100-lap, $50,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, started 17th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: O’Neal’s SSI Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Wheeler Metals, Professional Concrete, Dyno One, Sub-Surface of Indiana, Big River Steel, O'Neal's Salvage & Recycling, Merrill Bonding, Bob & Tammy Burton, Bobcat of Batesville, Indiana USSSA Fastpitch, West Side Tractor Sales, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels and Midwest Sheet Metal.
