Brandon Overton celebrates a $10,000 Crate Racin' USA victory at Swainsboro.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when polesitter Carson Ferguson retired after leading 34 laps, fellow front-row starter Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lapper at Swainsboro Raceway to capture the Rogers-Dabbs Crate Racin' USA finale. Overton turned back late challenges from runner-up Michael Brown for the $10,000 Turkey 100 payday.
Quotable: “Big thanks to Stacey (Roberts) for letting me wheel this hot rod,” Overton said. “I was leading this event last year when my brother passed me, so I am glad I was able to come out on top this year. I am looking forward to the dome next weekend with the Longhorn Factory Team.”
Key notes: Brandon Overton, driving the car his brother Cody won with at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway two weeks earlier, had a 0.502-second margin at the finish. ... Polesitter Carson Ferguson, driving a Wesley Page-owned Longhorn Chassis, dominated the first 34 laps before pulling his No. 75 car to the infield with apparent mechanical problems. ... Eighth-starting Trent Ivey finished fifth. ... Three cautions slowed the action. ... The initial start was called back. ... A lap-16 yellow appeared when provisional starter Mario Gresham stopped. ... Fifth-running Bubba Rolling retired on the 24th lap and drew a caution. ... Series champ Jimmy Thomas entered the event 56 points ahead of Matt Dooley and wrapped up his second tour title (his first came in 2021). ... Dooley, of Brooks, Ga., clinched Rookie of the Year honors. ... John Ruggiero Jr. earned $5,000 for his victory in the 602 Crate Late Model feature.
On the move: Matt Dooley of Brooks, Ga., started 23rd and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Overton drove a No. 11 Excel Racing Chassis owned by Stacey Roberts sponsored Park Built Body Co., Granite Grading & Hauling, Budweiser and Ingram Engines.
