Dillon Tidmore earned his third career Southern All Stars victory.
What won the race: Second-starting Dillon Tidmore of Gadsden, Ala., repelled a late-race challenge from David McCoy to win Saturday's 50-lap Southern All Star Series debut at Winder-Barrow Speedway. Tidmore controlled the entire distance for the $5,000 top prize, beating McCoy to the line by 0.425 of a second for his third-career SAS victory and his first of the season.
Quotable: “I was worried about somebody getting up there and blasting around the top, but I just said I was gonna ride around the bottom until I saw somebody’s nose or saw somebody get by me,” Tidmore said. “We was gonna live and die by (the bottom) and it worked out ... I wasn’t really sure what to expect (about the track), I’ve talked to Kenny Collins probably three or four times this week and he’s kinda coached me up on what to do around here, so thankful for him too. Gotta give a shoutout to him, he kinda had me prepped to come here, so we kinda knew what we was getting into. But, pretty cool little place.”
Key notes: Tidmore notched his first SAS win since Aug. 26, 2023, at Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, Ala., and his first win of any kind since last fall's Apple Festival Finale at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Ga. ... McCoy trailed Tidmore the entire way in his first touring series start of the season. ... Sixth-starting Jordy Nipper completed the podium finishers. ... Chris Woods, winner of a $1,500 GM 602 Series race at the track last fall, rounded out the top five. ... Cory Hedgecock, winner of Friday's weekend opener at Penton (Ala.) Raceway, hopped the turn-one cushion on lap eight and slipped to sixth. ... Early season points leader Billy Franklin overcame a lap-four incident to finish seventh. He tangled with James Cason and spun, blocking the track and necessitating a 10-minute red flag for cleanup; Cason did not continue. ... Michael Luna slowed to cause the second caution on lap 10; he continued for a handful more laps before retiring. ... Ken Lampp spun from 12th for the race's third and final slowdown on lap 17. ... The series debut lasted 33 minutes, with 12 starters completing 50 laps. ... Devon Morgan made the call for the feature but pulled off before taking the green. ... Shay Miller scratched after hot laps.
On the move: Billy Franklin of Calera, Ala., started 12th and finished seventh.
