Josh Leonard won at I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colo.
What won the race: Completing a 15th-to-first rally, Josh Leonard of Gibbons, Neb., won Saturday’s High Plains Late Model Series season opener at Colorado’s I-76 Speedway. Leonard earned $1,000 for his first-ever victory on the fourth-year tour.
Key notes: The win was the second time in as many weeks that Leonard reached victory lane for the first time with a regional tour. He won at Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D., on May 31 for his first career Repairable Vehicles.com Tri-State Series win. … Greg Sharpe drew a lap-11 caution. ... Jeff Meeker got into a lapped car and broke his car's rear end to trigger a lap-18 yellow. ... The High Plains Late Model Series kicked off its season with the first of three scheduled visits to the Fort Morgan, Colo., oval this season. … The fourth-year series made its 11th visit overall to I-76.
