What won the race: Taking the lead on lap 20 when leaders Matt Cooper and Oakley Johns got together with a lapped car, third-starting Corey Dunn of Milledgeville, Ga., outran David Seibers in Thursday night’s Crate Racin’ USA-sanctioned Salute to America Nationals at Clarksville Speedway to grab his first career series victory. Finishing 3.159 seconds ahead of Seibers, Dunn earned $2,000.
Quotable: “I was just laying back when (Matt) Cooper and (Oakley) Johns got to the lapped traffic and let them open the doors, so I was able to get through the wreck,” Dunn said. “After I got the lead, I just set a pace to keep (David) Seibers behind me, but I kept looking up at the scoreboard and I saw by Georgia buddy Wil Herrington climbing up the top five. I figured I’d better open it up a little more because he’s been pretty tough lately.”
Key notes: Polesitter David Seibers piloted a Black Diamond formerly driven by national touring star Earl Pearson Jr. ... The three-race Crate Racin’ USA Salute to America Nationals kicked off Thursday at Clarksville Speedway with a $2,000-to-win main event. … The series completes the weekend at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., Friday and Cochran (Ga.) Motor Speedway on Saturday.
