What won the race: Sliding ahead of Josh Rice coming to the white flag as the race-long leader began to slow with a flat right-rear tire, sixth-starting Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., rolled to the $5,000 victory in season opener on Thursday night at Florence Speedway. He took the checkers ahead of Zack Dohm and Tyler Carpenter.
Quotable: “It was just a matter of who made a mistake and who didn’t at what time,” Jameson said. “It was anybody’s race there. If (Devin Gilpin) hadn’t got out, he’d been right there in the mix too and it’d been a four-way battle to the end. I’m glad I got to pick this win off for James Rattliff for giving me a ride again.”
Key notes: Second-starting Josh Rice led the first 47 laps before slowing with a flat-tire; he limped across the finish line in fourth. … Tyler Carpenter faded to third on the final lap after tagging the turn four wall, allowing Zack Dohm to sneak by. … With a flat tire while running in second early sending him to the tail, Tyler Erb rallied up to a seventh place finish in the 50-lapper. … The Union, Ky., oval kicked off its long-awaited 2020 season with a $5,000-to-win special event for Super Late Models. … Live video was planned on DirtonDirt.com and FloRacing, but equipment misplaced by a shipping carrier prevented it. … The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Wednesday announced the addition of July 10-11 events at Florence to replace a scrapped series trip to two Minnesota tracks.
