What won the race: Holding off Ross Bailes after a caution appeared on lap 43, fourth-starting Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., soared to his 15th career Ultimate Southeast Series victory on Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway. Taking the checkers 0.615 of a second ahead of Bailes, Ferguson earned $5,000.
Key notes: Ferguson recorded his second triumph of 2020; his other checkered was also in Ultimate Southeast action at Cherokee on May 30. ... Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., entered the event on a three-race series winning streak but could only manage a 10th-place finish after starting 14th. ... The Ultimate Southeast Series visited Cherokee for the second night of the tour’s weekend doubleheader; it was the seventh visit in series history and second time this season. … The first five visits came during the tour’s inaugural season in 2011.
On the move: Trent Ivey of Union, S.C., started 10th and finish fifth.
