Freddie Carpenter celebrates his $4,000 Atomic victory.
What won the race: Pole-starting Freddie Carpenter led all the way Saturday at Atomic Speedway’s Buckeye 30 for a $4,000 victory. Carpenter took the checkers ahead of Steve Casebolt, who rallied back to second after drawing the race’s lone caution on the seventh lap.
Quotable: “Man she’s on a roll,” Carpenter said of his Kryptonite Race Car. “I came off the track after the heat race and the left-rear (tire) was hotter than the right-rear (tire) and I knew we had something... I started getting a little freer getting in on this end and a little tighter on this end. I was just dancing on the pedals and keeping it rocking."
Key notes: Freddie Carpenter won his second special event in as many weekends; he earned $3,000 on July 31 at Ohio Valley Speedway in Washington, W.Va. ... Runner-up Steve Casebolt, a $3,000 winner at Atomic on June 20, was tagged for the lap-seven caution in an incident with slower cars. ... Casebolt quickly went back to work, reaching third with 10 laps remaining and finishing second. … Shane Throckmorton scratched.
On the move: Shannon Roese of Ashville, Ohio, started 15th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Carpenter’s Kryptonite Race Car has a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship from Pro Tech Auto Sales, Johnnie L. Boston General Contractor, Big A Muffler, Bilstein and Dickson Racing Shocks.
Points chase: Steve Casebolt (128) of Richmond, Ind. leads Atomic’s weekly Late Model standings over Rod Conley (123) and Freddie Carpenter (121).
