What won the race: Max Blair of Centerville, Pa. held off Chub Frank after a restart with 10 laps remaining to capture the 10th annual Connor Bobik Memorial at Thunder Mountain Speedway. Blair earned $5,000 for his series-leading 28th career Zimmer's United Late Model Series victory.
Quotable: “We’re always pretty good here. I feel like we’re always up front and contending, but I’ve had some awful, awful luck here through the years,” Blair said. “We won the last one here, but before that it was a pretty rough stretch for a while. So it feels good to come here and get the win.”
Key notes: Max Blair became the first repeat winner on the ULMS circuit in 2020. ... Blair led all but the first few laps. ... The event, held at Thunder Mountain for the second consecutive year, honored Connor Bobik, who was 5 when he died from brain cancer in 2011. ... The Bobik family hosts several fundraisers in conjunction with the event, including drawings for autographed photos, door panels and donations from various tracks, businesses, and event sponsors, with proceeds going to the Make-a-Wish foundation. … Bonuses for the event include a $200 Integra Shocks Fast Time Award and $200 Hard Charger award sponsored by Ryan Thomas.
On the move: Joe Martin of Mayport, Pa., advanced from the 21st starting spot to finish 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Specialty Products, Murphy’s Logging, R&J Poultry Electrical, Previty’s Auto Wrecking, C&J Dairy, Upstate Auto Group, Clayson Construction, Specialty Products, Niemeyer’s Garage, Moody & Son Welding, Absolute Powder Coating and MWB Custom Graphics.
