What won the race: Inheriting the top spot from race-long leader Bryan Bernheisel following a caution on lap 44, Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., led the remaining 11 circuits to capture $7,055 in Friday night’s Labor Day 55 at Bedford Speedway. Finishing 0.954 seconds ahead of Rick Eckert, Zeigler recorded his first career Zimmer’s United Late Model Series victory.
Quotable: “We were good. I really had to keep holding myself back ‘cause I didn’t want to blow a tire out obviously,” said Zeigler. “Everyone was having some tire issues. I just tried to really pace myself there and just hangout until the last 20 laps.”
Key notes: Polesitter Bryan Bernheisel of Jonestown, Pa., shot out to a commanding lead early in the feature and held a comfortable margin until breaking on a lap-44 restart. … Seventh-starting Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., ducked into the pits after suffering a flat tire on the fourth lap and ended up retiring six laps later. … The Zimmer's United Late Model Series headed to Bedford Speedway on Friday for Bedford’s 33rd annual Labor Day Classic, which this season honored Turk Burkett, a former driver who won several races in the area during his career. … It was the opening night of a four-race weekend for the series and the second visit to Bedford this season. … It was only the third visit in series history. … Bedford has a four-race card headlined by Semi-lates and sportsman planned for Sunday also.
