The Blount Motorsports team enjoys victory lane at Tazewell.
What won the race: Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., led all 44 laps Sunday at Tazewell Speedway for a $4,400 victory in the 12th annual Buddy Rogers Memorial. Despite fighting a throttle issue the final 12 laps, McIntosh was rarely challenged in the race co-sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Fall Nationals and Schaeffer's Iron-Man Series.
Quotable: “This is the best race car I’ve ever had here. I was just on cruise control and (the crew) kept telling me I had plenty of room. I thought was good,” McIntosh said. “Then with about 10 or 12 (laps) to go going into (turn) three, the throttle stuck, and I thought I was going to crash it then. I had to really start driving really different knowing the throttle was going to be stuck."
Key notes: McIntosh has seven Fall Nationals victories and two on the Iron-Man circuit. ... Fighting issues with a stuck throttle, the winner needed a push after he stopped during a lap-33 caution; he also had a flat tire by the time he got to victory lane. ... Vic Hill was running third when he had a flat tire on lap 40. ... Michael Chilton was running third when he slowed with problems on lap 21. ... Eight cautions slowed the action. The most serious incidents came with four-car pileup in turn two on a lap-10 restart, then on the 22nd lap when Jason Trammell and Pierce McCarter tangled on the backstretch. ... McCarter piloted the MasterSbilt house car recently vacated by Hudson O'Neal and came back to finish fifth.
On the move: Aaron Guinn of Russellville, Tenn., started 12th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: McIntosh's Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Stowers CAT Machinery, Blount Excavating, Massey Electric, Turner Hydraulics, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Walker’s Truck Contractors and the Wine and Spirits Cellar.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Ryan King (474 points) of Seymour, Tenn., led the Schaeffer’s Iron-Man Series ahead of Michael Chilton (433) and Dakotah Knuckles (378); It was the opening weekend for the Schaeffer’s Fall Nationals tour.
