Brandon Overton notched his 20th overall victory of 2020.
What won the race: Second-starting Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., took advantage of polesitter Joseph Joiner's slip-up on a lap-15 restart to take the lead in Saturday's Michael Head Jr. Memorial at Senoia Raceway and led the rest of the 54-lapper. Overton pocketed $4,054 for his 20th overall victory of the season.
Quotable: “I saw the trophy online earlier in the week. I told my guys we were going to Senoia Raceway to win that trophy," Overton said of the replica pedal car. “We had to figure out where we could put the car and try and stay ahead of Joseph. He gave us one chance and I had to go.”
Key notes: Overton recored the fifth Southern All Stars victory of his career in crossing the finish line 2.488 seconds ahead of Joiner. ... Joiner of Milton, Fla., chased Overton after giving up the top spot and retook the lead in traffic on lap 41. But a caution waved before the lap was completed, handing the point back to Overton. ... Ten cars were running at the finish, five on the lead lap. ... The race was slowed by eight cautions. The most serious occurred on the second lap when a turn-four pileup left Todd Morrow on his roof. Morrow was OK and exited the race along with Michael Page. Both drivers started in top-10 positions. ... The series made its first visit of the season to Senoia after two previous attempts to visit the track in 2020 were postponed. … The race honored the late son of former Southern All Stars champion Mike Head of Ellenwood, Ga. The race was held at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., for many seasons before moving to Senoia in 2017.
On the move: Hometown driver Clint Smith advanced from 21st to finish fifth.
