Cory Hedgecock heads for his fourth Topless Outlaw victory of 2020.
What won the race: Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., took advantage of his pole starting position to lead all 30 laps and handily win the Topless Outlaw Series feature during the opening night of Smoky Mountain Speedway's King of the Mountain Championship on Friday. Hedgecock earned $3,000 for his fourth series victory of the season and 10th of his career.
Key notes: Hedgecock remains the only repeat winner on the tour in 2020. ... Hedgecock, the 2019 series champion, won by 5.587 seconds over Chase King of Seymour, Tenn. ... Hedgecock and King finished first and second in the Limited Late Model tour’s previous visit to Smoky Mountain this season on May 23. ... Friday's feature lasted over 18 minutes after being slowed by several caution flags at the initial start of the race prior to a lap being completed. ... Only the top seven finishers were able to complete all 30 laps. ... The event was among the undercard action for Smoky Mountain's Southern All Stars event won by Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga.
