What won the race: Claiming his second victory in as many nights, outside front-row starter Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led all 40 laps of Friday's Carolina Clash-sanctioned Buck Simmons Memorial to score a $6,000 victory at Lavonia Speedway. Overton, who also won Thursday's Fall Nationals race at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C., won at Lavonia by 0.864 seconds over runner-up Brent Dixon.

Key notes: Friday's victory was the fourth of Overton's career with the Carolina Clash series and his second win at Lavonia this season. He also won the track's World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series event on Sept. 4. ... Overton has now won in his last eight appearances in his home state going back to May 23. … Winner of the Ultimate Southeast Series' stop at Lavonia on July 3, Zack Mitchell of Enroee, S.C., finished ninth. … After earning fast qualifier honors earlier in the evening, polesitter Ricky Weiss of Headingley, Manitoba, was involved in an incident and made contact with the wall prior to completing a lap, relegating him to 20th-place finish. ... Series points leader Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., was also involved in a first lap incident and credited with finishing 22nd. ... During qualifying, Matthew Nance of Ronda, N.C., was discovered to have an unapproved tire and Brian Connor of Augusta, Ga., was found too light at the scales. Both drivers' qualifying times were disallowed, forcing them to start the feature from the rear of the field. ... It was the tour's first stop at Lavonia since 2017 and fourth-ever visit to the Georgia oval. ... Four caution flags slowed Friday's event, a race that lasted over 34 minutes. ... Only the top 11 finishers completed all 40 laps. ... The Carolina Clash series resumes at Lancaster Speedway (S.C.) on November 21, for a $10,000-to-win show.
