What won the race: Leading flag-to-flag to secure his second win in as many nights, polesitter Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., cruised to the $5,000 Ultimate Southeast Series victory on Saturday evening at Carolina Speedway. He turned back challenges from Chris Ferguson late after a caution set up a shootout with four laps remaining.
Quotable: “We had a really good night. Set fast time, led every lap. The track was a little wet, but there at the end it got good,” said Bailes. “It’s not really hard on tires, it just they get so hot you’ve got to, you know, be a little bit easy with them and make sire you’ve got something at the end.”
Key notes: Bailes kept fellow front-row starter Chris Ferguson at bay for all 40 laps as he soared to his eighth career victory with the series. … Point leader Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., salvaged an eighth-place finish after blowing a right-rear tire on lap 13 while running in third. … Eight cars retired early from the feature while two failed to complete a lap. … The Ultimate Southeast Series visited Carolina Speedway for the second night of a weekend doubleheader. … It was the tour’s second-ever visit to the Gastonia, N.C., oval.
On the move: Derrick Ramey of Mooresville, N.C., started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Bailes’s Big Frog Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Race Engine and sponsored by Dave’s Towing, M&W Transport, Collins Signs, Integra and Sunoco.
