What won the race: Overtaking race-long leader Matthew Nance with a high-side pass exiting turn four on lap 34, polesitter Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., pulled away to lead the rest of Saturday's 40-lap Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series debut at Lake View Motor Speedway. Bailes, who survived a midrace backstretch spin, earned $7,000 for his second career Xtreme Series triumph while Nance finished four seconds behind in second.
Quotable: “We got in lapped traffic and I’d try to go high and that hole there would mess me up," Bailes said. "If it wasn’t for that, I think I could have gotten (around) him earlier. I think Matthew had a right rear (tire) going down or broke something in the right rear. He just couldn’t get off the corner as good as he was. I wasn’t gonna pass him in the bottom, so I knew I had to go up top.”
Key notes: Bailes piloted the Billy Hicks Racing No. 79; his normal ride is for Florida-based Big Frog Motorsports on the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series. … The lone caution appeared when Rum Runner Racing's Nance got into rear of Kale Green's slower car on lap 25. While Nance went on with damage to the right front of his car’s nose, Green spun and Bailes spun to avoid the them both. The caution was charged to Green with Nance and Bailes returned to their original 1-2 positions. … Nance's upraised nosepiece let "air under the car and it just lifts both the front tires up and you have no steer," Nance said, "so the only thing I had to drive with after that was just the gas and brake pedal.” ... Nineteen of the 23 starters finished, 18 on the lead lap. … Fifth-place finisher Stewart Friesen made his fifth career Dirt Late Model start one day after finishing 11th in the NASCAR Truck event on Daytona's road course.
On the move: Anthony Sanders of Spartanburg, S.C., started 14th and finished 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Bailes drove a Billy Hicks-owned Longhorn Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by H&H Auto Sales and Hoosier Tire.
Points chase: After Lake View: 1. Chris Madden (225) 2. Kyle Strickler (210); 3. Daulton Wilson (206); 4. Anthony Sanders (178) 5. Trent Ivey (174).
