Brandon Overton waves after his $5,000 weekend finale victory.
What won the race: Completing a lucrative weekend sweep at Cochran Motor Speedway, Brandon Overton won a tight first-lap battle with fellow front-row starter Kyle Bronson and raced to a $5,000 Super Late Model victory with Scott Bloomquist finishing second in the unsanctioned 40-lapper. Overton added the payday to his $20,000 victory Friday, a makeup of November's postponed Gobbler 100.
Quotable: "It feels good. We were actually way better last night than we were tonight. I wasn't as maneuverable, but hell, we'll take it," Overton said in victory lane. "A pretty good weekend for us. I've got one more (race) to try and get done, this Crate race. It's going to be fun. A little relaxing for me. All the pressure and stuff is off now."
Key notes: Overton notched his sixth victory of the season. ... Runner-up Scott Bloomquist took the second spot from Bronson on the lap-14 restart and was closing on Overton late, but he ended up seven-tenths of a second behind at the checkers. ... The feature was slowed twice, on lap 14 for a slowing Dalton Cook and again a few laps later when Jimmy Sharpe Jr., Jeff Mathews, Dillon Tidmore and Mark Whitener tangled. ... Overton overtook Bronson on the sixth lap to win Friday's $20,000 feature. ... Cochran hosted its second Super Late Model special of the weekend, a $5,000-to-win main event added to the track’s schedule to complement Friday’s rescheduled Gobbler 100. … The Gobbler was rained out in November and captured Friday by Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga. … Whitener, of Middleburg, Fla., won Saturday's $5,000-to-win Street Stock World Championship. ... Caleb Gay won the 602 Crate feature with a last-lap pass.
