Cade Dillard led the last half of Saturday's Ronny Adams Memorial finale.
What won the race: Snapping a string of bad luck, Cade Dillard of Robeline, La., inherited the lead just before halfway when Timothy Culp and Billy Moyer tangled and captured Saturday's 40-lap Ronny Adams Memorial finale at Boothill Speedway. Dillard beat Ashton Winger by 1.874 seconds for a $7,000 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory.
Quotable: “I knew I had a really good car at the beginning so I was trying to ride around the bottom as long as I could, but I knew the top was probably better but it’s easy to mess up (running) up there,” Dillard said. “Once that happened (the Culp-Moyer incident) I knew it was probably time to go so we moved up. We’ve had a lot of bad luck lately, so it’s pretty rewarding to do this in front of my family and just be close to home in general.”
Key notes: Dillard, who wasn’t challenged while leading the race’s final 22 laps, registered his third career Comp Cams triumph. … The polesitting Culp led the first 18 laps before tangling with Billy Moyer, who ran into the rear of Culp’s car while charging off turn four, sending both machines spinning into turn one. Culp changed a blown-out right-rear tire and returned to the racetrack but retired before the feature restarted; Moyer also retired. … Winger chased Dillard from lap 19 to the finish as he recorded his best finish of a struggle-filled season. … Brian Rickman finished third in a car he debuted at Boothill. … Logan Martin, who won Friday’s weekend opener, finished fifth. … Billy Moyer Jr. was bidding for the lead on lap 11 when contact with Culp sent him sideways on the backstretch; he fell back to finish sixth. ... Other caution flags flew for Neil Baggett on lap six and Scott Crigler sliding over the turn-one bank on lap eight. ... The event honored the late Adams, a Texas short-track legend who died in August 2019.
On the move: Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, started 18th and finished ninth.
