Wil Herrington won from the pole at Modoc Raceway.
What won the race: Reigning Crate Racin’ USA Series champ Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., cruised to the $10,000 victory in Saturday night’s Modoc 100 at Modoc Raceway. He finished 2.819 seconds ahead of runner-up Mark Whitener in the final round of the Crate Racin' USA Winter Series slate.
Quotable: “I knew (Whitener) was there, and he’s so good that I knew I couldn’t mess up with him behind me,” Herrington said. “I had my crew guy Brian Green standing in turn three giving me signals, but I was having a hard time seeing him because I wear contacts, and the dust was really bothering my eyes. It was creating moisture in my eyes going down the backstretch, because it was real dusty off turn two, and the traffic was tough here tonight.”
Key notes: The 604 Crate Late Models of Crate Racin’ USA invaded Modoc (S.C.) Speedway for a two-day event that paid $10,000 to the winner of Saturday’s 75-lap main event. ... Joshua Bishop of Statesboro, Ga., Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., Corey Gordon of Charlotte, N.C., and Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., each earned heat race victories on Friday. … The event wraps up the organization’s Winter Series that pays $2,500 to the champion. … It’s also the second event in the new E-Z-GO $100,000+ Challenge, which is a collection of Crate Racin’ USA events that pay at least $10,000 to the winner and keeps a separate points chase that will crown its own champion with a $5,000 payday.
On the move: Walker Arthur of Forest, Va., started 18th and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Herrington's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Harvey Trucking, 5M Construction, Y Delta Inc. and Boswell Oil.
Points chase: Dylan Knowles of Lanett, Ala., wrapped up CRUSA’s Winter Shootout title.
