What won the race: Brett Hamm of Newberry, S.C., held off a hard-charging Trent Ivey late to capture the $5,000-to-win Gaston County Shrine 100 with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series.

Quotable: "I could hear (Ivey) down there," Hamm said. "I just had to concentrate on hitting my marks and not worry what was going on there. If you try to focus on that, you're beating yourself. I knew he was there and just had to try to, like I said, really nail down (corner) entry and through the center to make sure we didn't push or get free because I couldn't really tell what power delivery we were going to get for a while. We'll work on that and go racing again, but I think we've got a good piece."

Key notes: Hamm led all 40 laps in a car in its third start (in the previous two starts he wrecked and blew a motor). ... The winner had pulled out to over a two second lead when the caution flew with 17 laps to go. ... Trent Ivey took advantage to climb three spots to then set sail to challenge Hamm. ... Ivey got close but was unable to take the top spot. There hasn’t been a repeat winner in four series races this season. … Ben Watkins, Daulton Wilson, Ross Bailes and now Brett Hamm each have a win.
