Mike Greseth races toward his first career Late Model victory.
What won the race: Breaking through for his first-ever full-fender victory, Mike Greseth of Harwood, N.D., regained command from Brad Seng while racing through lapped traffic late in the distance to capture Thursday night's 25-lap Northern LateModel Racing Association feature at Grand Rapids Speedway. Greseth crossed the finish line ahead of Shane Edginton and Seng to secure the $1,200 top prize and a career-first NLRA triumph.
Quotable: “I didn’t know where to go with the lapped traffic, and I didn’t realize there was rubber down low coming in,” said Greseth, who plans to chase the NLRA tour this season. “Then Brad got by me down there and I seen him go to the outside of the other cars and I went back down there and got by him. We’re fortunate to come out on top.”
Key notes: An open-wheel modified veteran, Greseth is in his first season driving a Dirt Late Model. His five previous full-fenders starts this season included finishes of second, third, fourth and fifth. ... After Greseth slipped back past Seng for the lead, Edginton also overtook the four-time NLRA champion to finish second. Seng settled for third place. ... Dave Mass, who won the NLRA season opener on May 21 at I-94 Sure Step Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn., finished fourth. ... Grand Rapids hosted the NLRA tour for just the second time in series history; Canadian Joel Cryderman won the circuit's 2010 visit to the track.
On the move: Jeff Provinzino of Hibbing, Minn., started 21st and finished 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Greseth’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Quality Engine, Innovative Air, T&S Custom Homes, Stremick Trucking and York Furnaces.
Points chase: Heading to Grand Rapids, Dave Mass (224 points) led Bryce Sward (214), Mike Greseth (206), Shane Edginton (198) and Ryan Mikkelson (192).
