What won the race: Polesitter Jeremy Wonderling of Wellsville, N.Y., dominated Saturday's Pace Performance RUSH Late Model Series feature at Genesee Speedway to collecct $2,000.
Quotable: “Restarts are brutal when you start by guys like Joe (Martin) and John (Waters),” Wonderling said. “I got comfortable when I was leading by myself, but the car was slipping a little bit down in (turns) three and four. I saw John down there and was like ‘It must be better down there down’ and I wasn’t going to let him have it. I didn’t cut him off, but I got a run down there and hoped his car wasn’t any better on the top. He showed me a little too early. The top got pretty black later and it was actually driving the car straighter as I was able to do some things inside the car with my breaks. I was trying to be as smooth as possible, hit my marks, and keep those guys behind me.”
Key notes: Wonderling has won two of the last three series races and now has nine career victories on the RUSH tour. ... John Waters of Whitesville, N.Y., finished in the runner-up position, 1.080 seconds behind Wonderling. ... After winning four of the first five series events, Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., finished third. ... Saturday's feature lasted 33 minutes, with 14 competitors completing 30 laps. ... After Friday's event at Outlaw Speedway was rained out, the Pace Performance RUSH Late Model Series concludes their weekend doubleheader with a stop at Bradford Speedway in Rew, Pa., on Sunday, for another $2,000-to-win feature.
On the move: J.J. Mazur started 25th and finished seventh at his hometown track.
