Randy Weaver heads for his third Spring Nationals victory.
What won the race: Polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., led all 40 laps at Dixie Speedway on Saturday, earning his third career feature victory with the Schaeffer's Spring Nationals Series and pocketing $4,053. He beat Brandon Overton to the finish line by 0.791 of a second.
Quotable: "I remember that guy behind me," Weaver said of Overton, who drove the Weaver-Stone Racing No. 116 from late 2016 until June '18. "He's got all kinds of raw talent, and when I hired him, I told him it was the most raw talent that I've ever seen. So I knew what he was capable of doing, so I was just trying to hang on and hit my marks."
Key notes: Weaver became the seventh series winner in seven series races in 2021. ... Weaver registered his first Spring Nationals triumph since May 1, 2015, at the defunct Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway. ... Overton came from the fourth starting spot to secure the runner-up finishing position. ... Perennial Dixie contender Michael Page retired on lap 29 with rear suspension issues. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by three separate incidents, lasted 18 minutes and saw 15 drivers complete the 40-lap distance.
On the move: Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Weaver's Capital Race Car is sponsored by Josh Roberts Trucking, Roberts Repair and VP Racing Fuels.
Points chase: Heading into the weekend, Dale McDowell (1,166 points) of Chickamauga, Ga., led Donald McIntosh (1,138), Cory Hedgecock (1,094), David Payne (1,056) and Stacy Boles (1,034).
