What won the race: Outdueling Dave Hess Jr., fourth-starting Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., recorded his 33rd career Zimmer’s United Late Model Northern Series victory on Sunday night at Eriez Speedway in the 29-lap Dick Litz Memorial. He took the checkers 0.297 of a second ahead of Hess for the $2,900 top prize.
Quotable: “That was a crazy race,” said Blair. “I didn’t think it was gonna happen. I knew we had the car to do it, but just them yellows kept falling at the wrong time. I just thought it was gonna play out the wrong way.”
Key notes: The fourth-starting Blair grabbed the lead from race-long pacesetter Colton Flinner on lap 20 before spending the final circuits fending off Hess, who reached second on lap 23. ... Blair recorded his second win driving equipment fielded by Viper Motorsports' Shawn and Lisa Martin of Carlisle, Pa. ... Flinner slipped to a fifth-place finish after leading the first 19 laps. ... Several cautions slowed the first five laps, including when Greg Oakes, Jon Lee and Khole Wanzer tangled for a first-lap caution. ... Deshawn Gingerich had a couple of spins, one drawing a lap-25 yellow. ... The race honored the late Eriez driver of the No. 29 Late Model.
On the move: Jason Genco of Jamestown, N.Y., started 25th and finished 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Viper Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Specialty Products, Murphy’s Logging, R&J Poultry Electrical, Previty’s Auto Wrecking, C&J Dairy, Upstate Auto Group, Clayson Construction, Specialty Products, Niemeyer’s Garage, Moody & Son Welding, Absolute Powder Coating and MWB Custom Graphics.
