What won the race: Fast qualifier Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., stormed to a $7,500 victory in Sunday's 50-lap Ultimate Southeast Mike Butler Memorial at Cherokee Speedway. He beat Brent Dixon to the checkered flag by 0.880 of a second.
Quotable: "The old race car was good," Overton said in victory lane. "I don't know what to say. We just did our job tonight: qualified good and just got ourselves in position to win. That's kind of how they're won now as long as you don't mess up in traffic, just keep your nose clean and keep the tires on 'er and don't do nothing stupid, it all works out."
Key notes: Overton dominated the action, leading from flag-to-flag to record his third straight Ultimate Southeast triumph and fourth overall this season. ... It was Overton's ninth career Ultimate Southeast win and his 11th overall victory of 2021. ... Dixon reached second place on lap 37 and chased Overton for the remainder of the distance. ... Cherokee hosted its second Ultimate Southeast Series event in three weeks.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Wells Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Race Engine and sponsored by CrossFit Overton, Allstar Concrete, E-Z-Go, Big Dog Stump & Tree, R.W. Powell Construction, Convenient Lube, Allstar Performance and Topnotch Kustom Koncepts.
