What won the race: Collecting $5,000 for his second series victory this season, polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., glided to a flag-to-flag victory in Friday's 40-lap Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series-sanctioned Stars and Stripes Showdown feature at Boyd's Speedway.
Key notes: Weaver's previous Iron-Man South triumph came in the circuit's season opener on Jan. 30, also at Boyd's. That was his first-ever checkered flag on the series. ... Weaver became the first repeat winner in eight Iron-Man Southern Series events in 2021. ... Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, Tenn., kept Weaver in his sights throughout the race but settled for the runner-up position, 0.713 of a second behind. ... Entering the race having won three of his last five starts overall, Tyler Millwood cooled off with an eighth-place finish. … Friday’s feature, the tour’s second of three planned visits to Boyd’s this season, was slowed by several incidents and lasted 31 minutes, with 13 competitors completing all 40 laps. ... The series will run another $5,000-to-win A-main at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway on Saturday before joining the Iron-Man Northern Series for a co-sanctioned race at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Ky., on Sunday. … A points fund between the three events offers a $500 bonus to the best performing driver with $300 for second and $200 for third.
