Michael Norris with his $12,000 check at Bedford on Friday.
What won the race: Second-starting Michael Norris of Sarver, Pa., led the first six laps before giving way to Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., then regained the lead on lap 38 and paced the final 17 circuits to win Friday's 34th annual Labor Day 55 Classic at Bedford Speedway. Driving Todd Cerenzia's No. 02, Norris pulled away after gaining command and beat Gregg Satterlee by 2.316 seconds for the $12,000 winner's check.
Key notes: The victory — the richest of Norris's career — was his fourth with the Zimmer's United Late Model Series. He previously won ULMS races this season on April 24 at Ohio's Sharon Speedway and July 23 at Pennsylvania's Thunder Mountain Speedway, both with Cerenzia's car. ... Taking the runner-up position on lap 45 after starting 22nd, the hard-charging Satterlee never drew close enough to challenge Norris. ... After leading laps 7-37, the polesitting Blair slipped to third in the final rundown. ... Justin Weaver settled for fifth after running third until late in the distance. ... Defending Labor Day 55 winner Mason Zeigler finished eighth. ... A ULMS feature winner at Bedford in July 2020, Matt Sponaugle finished 12th. ... Rick Eckert, the 2019 Labor Day 55 winner, transferred to the feature with a consolation victory but finished 18th after completing only 24 laps. ... Friday's feature, which was co-sanctioned by the ULMS North and South Regions, was slowed by only one incident, on lap 11, and lasted 23 minutes; nine competitors completed all 55 laps. … Bedford also hosts a five-division program on Sunday headlined by a $1,000-to-win Late Model Sportsman race. … This is Bedford’s final points weekend.
On the move: Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., started 22nd and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Norris drove Todd Cerenzia's Rocket Chassis carrying sponsorship from Todd's Auto Body, Jay's Auto Wrecking, Millerstown Pic-A-Part, Daugherty Motorsports, Integra Racing Shocks and Hoosier Tire.
