Matt Henderson earned $20,000 with his victory at Cochran.
What won the race: Going from third-to-first with an outside move on a lap-53 restart, fifth-starting Matt Henderson of Loudon, Tenn., led the final 22 circuits to win Sunday's Crate Racin' USA-sanctioned 17th annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship at Cochran Motor Speedway. The victory netted Henderson $20,000, the largest payday of his career.
Quotable: "We had a plan, I have a brilliant crew chief-car owner, we just stuck to our strategy. We had the best race car all weekend, nobody had anything for it," Henderson said. "I knew I had to be patient early and I was hoping (Cory) Hedgecock was going to pick the inside and give me the top, because I had found something. Luckily, they didn't see it and pulled him to the inside and that gave me what I needed for him and Ferguson."
Key notes: Henderson won his fourth CRUSA victory of 2021 and third straight; his previous two wins came in a sweep of the tour's Aug. 27-28 doubleheader at North Alabama Speedway. ... After leading the first 52 laps from the outside front-row, Carson Ferguson of Concord, N.C., settled for the runner-up position, 3.808 seconds behind Henderson. ... Battling in the top three for the entire race and getting as high as second on lap 67, Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., finished third. ... Ninth-starting Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., briefly took third from Hedgecock on lap 70 before settling for fourth. ... Last year's World Championship runner-up and two-time series winner this year, Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., finished fifth. ... Series title contender Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., started 22nd and finished 11th. … Polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., was only able to complete 54 laps and finished 20th. ... The race was slowed by six cautions and was red-flagged for roughly 10 minutes during a mid-race caution to allow safety crews to unhook two cars that were hung together. ... The race lasted 52 minutes, with 14 competitors completing all 75 laps.
On the move: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., started 21st and finished ninth.
