Dillan Stake shows off his historic paycheck at Port Royal.
What won the race: Outside front-row starter Dillan Stake of Three Springs, Pa., led all but the first lap of Saturday's 25-lapper at Port Royal Speedway to win the track's richest-ever Limited Late Model feature. Stake earned $5,033 in taking the checkers 0.517 of a second over polesitter and first-lap leader Shawn Shoemaker.
Quotable: "I know on the (lap-21) red (flag), I was kind of worried with tires. I think it helped us in the long run," Stake said of his battle with Shoemaker. "But I know he was pounding that top before that. I didn't feel like I needed to go there yet. I told my crews that if I need to go (high), send me, don't hesitate. But I was able to get a good (re)start there ..."
Key notes: A red flag waved on the 21st lap for a four-car incident in turn one with Derick Garman slamming the inside turn-one wall. Others involved were Steve Todorow, J.R. Toner and Matt Murphy. ... Stake held off Shawn Shoemaker after the final restart. ... Gregg Satterlee won the night's ULMS event for Super Late Models in the $6,333-to-win Butch Renninger Memorial ... Event sponsors were Packer’s Concessions, Weikert’s Livestock, Mifflin Hill Beverage, Beerhill Gang TV, Mike Cleck Paving & Sealcoating along with RV 4 Wheel Drive & Performance Automotive.
On the move: Matt Parks of Three Springs, Pa., started 21st and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Stake's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Barron Race Engine and sponsored by Penske Racing Shocks by JDS James Stevens, Tinman Body Shop, Fryeco Fabrication, Unger's Firewood, Wagner's Excavating, Dirt Rebel Clothing, Garlock’s Used Cars, Wayne’s Water Conditioning and Kevin Nouse Designs (KNDsafety.com).
