Joe Martin (10s) races with Jeremy Wonderling (3) at Sharon.
What won the race: Regaining the lead from Jeremy Wonderling on lap 39, polesitter Joe Martin of Mayport, Pa., led all but one lap on his way to winning Saturday's Cider Jug 40 at Sharon Speedway, topping the Pace Performance RUSH Racing Series field to earn $4,000.
Quotable: "I shouldn't be this emotional; it's a crate race but it's hard to win these races," Martin said. "I feel like we've been good all year, but can't win these races; look at these winners Jeremy (Wonderling), Kyle (Hardy), Chub (Frank), Michael Norris and Mark Whitener. It means so much to me to give all these guys what they deserve. I put a lot of pressure on myself and I thought I gave it away for sure. ... (Wonderling) squeezed me down the backstretch, but I wasn't lifting; I was either going to wreck or win it."
Key notes: After passing Martin for the lead on the lap-38 restart, Jeremy Wonderling of Wellsville, N.Y., settled for the runner-up position, 0.430 seconds back. ... RUSH Racing Series point leader, Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., finished third. ... After running in second for the first 26 laps, Logan Zarin of Pittsburg, Pa., faded to finish fourth. ... Saturday's feature, part of Sharon Speedway’s Apple Festival Nationals for the first time since 2016, was slowed by two separate incidents and lasted 18 minutes, with 11 competitors completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Michael Duritsky of Masontown, Pa., started 17th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Martin’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by T&D Performance 24-Hour Towing, Berkshire Hathaway, Tuff Nuts and Weather Capital Sales.
