What won the race: Pulling off the evening sweep, fast qualifier Dustin Mitchell of Pine Level, N.C., raced to his second career Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series victory Saturday at County Line Raceway. He kept series points leader Michael Brown in check for a $4,000 victory, his first on the series in nearly 11 years.
Quotable: “The car was flawless tonight,” Mitchell said. “I know Michael was coming there on the outside and I moved up and felt better up there, too. But it’s just hard to get off that bottom down here. We’ve won so many races down here."
Key notes: Mitchell, who led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper, survived multiple challenges from runner-up Michael Brown to capture his first Carolina Clash win since October 2010 at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway. … Brown tried his best to get around Mitchell. "A lot of told me you had to ride around the bottom," Brown said. "I just said 'To tell with it.' I ain't come here to ride around. I was going to make it a show." ... Brett Hamm, third in series points, had nosepiece problems that forced him out on the ninth lap. ... The most serious incident came for a Mike Huey-triggered pileup in turn two involving five cars on the ninth lap. ... Fourteen cars completed 40 laps. ... Third-starting Michael Batten was the first retiree on the fourth circuit. … Two drivers got into the backstretch fence for a first-half yellow. ... Daniel Tucker was in the middle of a turn-four scramble on an early resetart. ... Dykes Maynard caused two early cautions and retired on lap 15. ... County Line hosted the series for the 17th time in series history.
On the move: Christian Thomas of Wake Forest, N.C., started 15th and finished fifth.
