Garrett Alberson earned $7,000 in Friday’s MLRA action.
What won the race: Sneaking ahead of race-leader Mike Spatola with 15 laps remaining, second-starting Garrett Alberson raced to his second career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory in opening round of the Harvest Hustle on Friday at Sycamore Speedway. He earned $7,000.
Key notes: Polesitter Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., led the first 13 circuits but a slip-up in turns one and two relegated him to the tail. Pierce later hit the wall after experiencing brake problems, forcing the team to make front-end repairs to his Scooby Doo-themed machine. … Mike Spatola of Manhattan, Ill., who inherited on the 14th circuit, paced the field for 21 laps but was unable to hold off a charging Alberson. … The Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association made its Sycamore debut. … The Harvest Hustle featured a 50-lap, $7,000-to-win feature Friday and 40-lap, $5,000-to-win main event Saturday (the programs were flip-flopped because of the potentially threatening weather Saturday). … The MLRA tour wraps up with a doubleheader Oct. 15-16 at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill.
On the move: Justin Duty of Mulino, Ore., started 23rd and finished 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Alberson’s Roberts Motorsports Black Diamond Chassis carries a Clements engine and sponsorship from Roemer Machine, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Mesilla Valley Transportation, DoneRight.TV, Capri College, Preston Telephone Company and Lucas Oil Products.
Points chase: After Sycamore Friday: 1. Tony Jackson Jr. (3,170); 2. Garrett Alberson (2,010); 3. Jason Papich (2,575); 4. Mason Oberkramer (2,400); 5. Justin Duty (2,360).
