John Ruggiero steers toward a $2,000 victory at Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 30.
What won the race: Fourth-starting John Ruggiero Jr. of Lincolnton, N.C., grabbed the lead on lap five and cruised to remaining circuits to capture Saturday's 19-lap Drydene World Short Track Championship at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. He beat Daniel Parker to the finish line by 0.710 of a second to pocket the $2,000 top prize.
Quotable: "After we tore up our 604 car last night I knew I had to do something tonight to make up for it," Ruggiero said. "I'm thankful to come back out here today and run well in this car and hopefully make my family proud and everyone who came here today to help me. They intended on working on two cars so maybe I made it a little easier on them."
Key notes: Defending event winner Bryan Mullis of Rock Hill, S.C., finished third after leading the first two laps. ... Twelfth-starting John Price of Mill Spring, N.C., advanced eight positions to finish fourth. ... Polesitter Rod Tucker of Greenville, S.C., led laps 3-4 before fading to finish fifth. ... Justin Taylor of King, N.C., started 20th and finished eighth. ... Nineteenth-starting Chuckie Duncan of Chesnee, S.C., advanced 10 positions and finished ninth. ... Saturday's feature was stopped for over 10 minutes by a red flag that came after Jay Merck tangled with Seth Wimpey on lap one, triggering an eight-car pileup. ... Three additional incidents also slowed the main, which was shortened to 19 laps (from 25) after exceeding the 40-minute time-limit. ... Eleven competitors completed all 19 laps.
On the move: Jordan Koehler of Mount Airy, N.C., started 21st and finished seventh.
