Logan Roberson crossed the line second but was elevated to victory by Doug Horton’s disqualification.
What won the race: Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, Va., inherited Friday's Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout victory at East Bay Raceway Park after officials disqualified apparent winner Doug Horton in postrace technical inspection. The pole-starting Horton, the reigning track champion who led all 30 laps, repelled Roberson amid traffic in the final laps before being stripped of the victory.
Key notes: Roberson crossed the finish line 1.937 seconds behind Doug Horton, whose disqualification extended his East Bay futility after winning the 2021 track title without cracking victory lane. ... The series said Horton's penalty was assessed because of an "outside-the-seal engine violation that did not meet the sanctioning body's specifications, and was related to valve spring installation height." ... Horton was an East Bay Winternationals winner in Crate action in 2018. ... Roberson's victory came a night after he failed to crack the feature lineup. ... Indeed Thursday's winner Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., failed to make Friday's main event. ... Outside front-row starter Keith Nosbisch retired running second on lap 13. ... Saturday’s finale of the three nights of Crate Late Model action carries a $5,000-to-win purse.
On the move: Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., started 18th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Roberson’s Rusty Webb Racing CVR Race Car is sponsored by RW Properties and Morgan-McClure.
Points chase: After East Bay Friday: 1. Cory Hedgecock (346); 2. Jason Welshan (306); 3. Jody Knowles (298); 4. Nevin Gainey (268); 5. Jamie Burford (244).
