Cody Overton picked up a $5,000 victory at Lavonia Speedway.
What won the race: Leading every lap from outside the front row, Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., won Friday’s Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series main event at his home track. Earning $5,000 for his first career Super Late Model victory, Overton finished 0.838 of a second ahead of polesitter Dalton Cook.
Quotable: “I got the whole back straightaway on my side I guess,” Overton said. “They were all telling me I was good (in traffic), calm down. I feel like I had this whole place on my side tonight and that’s what it takes. I dreamed of winning a Super race, especially at a place I raced at a long time. Man I love this place.”
Key notes: It’s Overton’s first victory for car owner Jeff Mathews of Apollo Beach, Fla., who tabbed Overton to drive during the offseason. … Overton’s biggest lead was 1.110 seconds on lap 29. … Twenty-one of the 22 starters finished the race with 17 completing 40 laps. … Runner-up Dalton Cook of Smiths Station, Ala., was the last driver to sign in on Friday. Cook got his hauler stuck in his yard before leaving home and then ran into heavy traffic in the Atlanta area which further delayed him. … Overton is the eighth feature winner in series history. … Friday’s event was the opener of the tour’s weekend doubleheader at Lavonia. …One of the weekend events was originally scheduled for the recently renamed Little River Speedway in Modoc, S.C., but renovations at Modoc forced a cancellation. … The winter miniseries began Nov. 20 at Lancaster (S.C) Speedway and runs through March 26 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C.
On the move: Ethan Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., started 17th and finished 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Overton’s Jeff Mathews-owned Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Grizzly Coolers, Supply Chain Management, Recreational Vehicle Select, Credit Union Remarketing Solutions, Budweiser, Tribble Electric and Buffalo Bar & Grill.
Points chase: After Lavonia Friday: T1. Carson Ferguson (245); T1. Ben Watkins (245); 3. Ross Bailes (239); 4. Ethan Wilson (160) 5. Anthony Sanders (153).
