What won the race: Remaining undefeated in 2022 at Port Royal Speedway, polesitter Colton Flinner of Allison Park, Pa., rolled to a flag-to-flag victory in Sunday's 30-lap Zimmer's United Late Model Series feature. He dominated the event, beating Gregg Satterlee to the finish line by 6.923 seconds for the $3,500 top prize and his first career ULMS triumph.
Quotable: “A lot of my so-called friends back in western Pennsylvania said that I only won last week (March 6) because there was no competition here, so you guys can kiss my ass,” Flinner said in victory lane. “I seen Satterlee down there (on the inside) and Satterlee’s one of the best racers I think in our region. He’s a World of Outlaws-Lucas Oil guy for a reason. I’m glad he’s one of my good friends, but racing against Gregg and being able to beat Gregg means a lot to me and I hope I can get to beat him a lot more.”
Key notes: Flinner, who plans to chase the ULMS points title in 2022, won Port Royal's season opener on March 6. ... After maintaining a steady edge of around 1 second over Satterlee for much of the distance, Flinner stretched his advantage in the final circuits to win going away over his fellow western Pennsylvania driver. ... Seventh-starting Jared Miley was a distant third-place finisher while Michael Norris placed fourth, giving western Pennsy residents a sweep of the top-four spots. ... Rick Eckert started and finished fifth. ... Sixth-starting Jason Covert brought out a caution flag on the initial start when he backed into the turn-one wall. ... Alex Ferree crossed the finish line first in the first B-main but was disqualified because his car failed the post-race droop rule inspection. ... The ULMS tour had a tripleheader scheduled with Williams Grove on Friday (won by Satterllee) and back-to-back nights at Port Royal, but Saturday’s show at Port Royal was rained out.
On the move: Jeff Rine of Danville, Pa., started 21st and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Flinner’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from John’s Towing, River Salvage, All American Framers, Randig Towing, Jake Brake Customs and Garvin Scrap Metal.
